RIJEKA '98
 


Just as you step down of the bus you can feel the soporific, Mediterranean smell of Rijeka, which turns your attention aside from the first doubtful picture, typical for every big quay. Anyway Rijeka is a beautiful town with very interesting location and with more interesting, even amazing architecture and with it's numerous entangled narrow streets like a complex labyrinth. We were lucky to meet the town in the top of the summer season, when it is most visited and regarding to the cultural life it has a lot of to offer. The visiting anyway, is a result of the near surrounding small tourist towns (Opatija, Icici, Lovran, Medveja...) which you can not observe apart from Rijeka. Although a lot of festivals and concerts of famous musicians happen in Rijeka almost every night ; the main part of the night life occurs exactly in Opatija, which is ,by the way, full of tourists, mostly Italians.An interesting fact is that a big part of young population speaks Italian, which is very often a result of the origin of their families.

The purpose of our visit to Rijeka was the Faculty of Dentistry in Rijeka, which is a part of the Faculty of Medicine. The students enroll after the pass the entrance examinations. Studies last 5 years and after the graduation the students get the title 'doctor on dentistry'. The education is with similar disposition like ours, but the prime accent is put on practical work and visiting seminars. All in all, the studies are not so different from here. Every student has a free access to the Internet at the office of the student's organization, where the CROMSIC & the CROADS (medical and dental students' organizations) work together.They have a common magazine-SPECULM.

One thing that you will not find neither on Internet, nor in some text like this one is the perfect harmony of west-European elegance and Balkan goodfellowsheep and hospitality you can find on every step. Even that the Faculty in Rijeka you won't experience as a sensation, but on contrary as deja vu, Rijeka and people there offer another numberless reasons because of which they are worth while to be visited.
